Talli is an independent magazine platform designed for children and teenagers under 17 years old. In 2023, the first launch of this magazine took place in a serene bamboo garden in Talliguri village. I was responsible for creatively arranging the event, ensuring an immersive and meaningful experience that reflected the ethos of Talli.
Since the event was hosted in a bamboo garden, I chose bamboo as the primary material for the stage and decoration. I have always emphasized the use of local and sustainable materials in my projects. Alongside bamboo, I incorporated parts of a nearby kathal (jackfruit) tree and vines collected from the surrounding forest, completely avoiding plastic elements. The use of natural materials ensured an eco-friendly and aesthetically harmonious environment.
A significant highlight of the design was the representation of the magazine's logo and banner through kites. This choice was inspired by childhood memories of flying kites, recalling how they often got stuck in trees or brushwood. To reinforce this nostalgic connection, I used traditional materials such as newspaper, rice glue, and jaggery to construct the kites, just as we did in our childhood.
Given that the event itself was unique, I wanted the unveiling of the magazine to be equally innovative. Instead of a conventional magazine format, I printed the four-page edition onto two large canvases (18 inches by 60 inches). These canvases were then designed like a book, with hinges at the center. The distinguished guests at the event were invited to physically open these two canvas panels, symbolizing the grand opening of the Talli magazine in a way that was interactive and memorable.
The launch event was well received by the attendees, and I felt privileged to contribute to such an inspiring initiative. The thoughtful design, the emphasis on sustainability, and the infusion of childhood nostalgia made the event not just a magazine launch but a meaningful experience for the community. I am deeply grateful to the Talli team for entrusting me with this project and providing a platform to explore creativity in a responsible and engaging manner.
The Talli magazine launch stands as a testament to the power of creativity, sustainability, and childhood memories in shaping artistic expressions. Through this project, I was able to merge traditional elements with modern design thinking, crafting a space that was both engaging and eco-conscious. I look forward to continuing to explore such projects that blend culture, sustainability, and innovation.
